We had a sales rep steal a laptop that contained a Goldmine PE and all of his sales territory contacts.

Is there a way to setup a Goldmine "time bomb."

Example:
If a rep does not sync at the end of the day or certain timeframe the local installation locks him out rendering goldmine useless.

I see this done with trial software with a countdown or trial period.

Also if they try to sync the server shuts them down.

Any ideas to prevent theft of data for sync users?

He only stole his territory. However, they are al prospects and customers in 5 states.

I suggest you report the theft to the police.  Both the laptop and the information contained on it belong to you (or your business), not to the person who took it.

There is no way to set up a time bomb within GoldMine except through the synchronization process. However, that does sound like a call for a good third-party application.

Hopefully you have a solid, legal "non-disclosure" or "confidentially" agreement with him.  This will let you go after him and any future employers.

GoldMine Mobile has a feature to clear the BlackBerry of all GoldMine Content. But that may not be possible in GoldMine.

It should not be a big change for FRS to make in the software to have a time limit for undocked installations. Something as simple like the Password expiry feature or a 30 day trial expiry. The Admin can generate an activation code on expiry or before.

Although the data would not be accessible through GoldMine, it would still be accessible through other means unless there was some provision to do a wipe of the tables.

We use laptops that require a valid fingerprint scan to boot and encryption software to encrypt hard drive information. Lastly we deploy our own PKI infrastructure to utilize certificates to verify identification prior to connectivity to network resources. We at first thought this might be a little over kill but none of the items were a large financial impact on our business and the security of our intellectual property was significantly increased. Along with the fingerprint scanning, the computer vendor offered BIOS embedded software that will locate the laptop the moment it is booted up and connected to the internet, even if the orignal hdd was removed.
