Running GoldMine 6.00.21021 on XP Home, SP3 and for years, no bugs.  Now, “Can not open the dictionary index file” (speller) when sending e-mail.  Using UNC, not mapped, on local single user PC installation.  Tried fixed in Viola’s PDF, no change.  Tried copying back previous files that worked OK from Explorer file BU, not GoldMines backup tool, specifically the GM.ini and [user].ini file in speller.
Within preferences, settings appear correct, for example, default dictionary points to  [user].tlx file.  What’s missing?  Many thanks in advance for any assistance on this:

Here’s the GM.ini file, with user defined as SRH:

[GoldMine]
User=SRH
UserLog=1
SSCE_PATH=Speller
AutoLog=1

StartTime=08:00
DLFlags=127

And here’s the [user] ini file under Speller folder…

[SSCE]
MainLexPath=c:\apps\goldmine\speller\ssce_lex
HelpFile=c:\apps\goldmine\speller\Ssce.hlp
MainLexFiles=ssceam.tlx,ssceam2.clx
[SSCE User]

LastSelectedLex=SRH.tlx
AutoCorrect=1
MinSuggestDepth=25
MainLexFiles=ssceam.tlx,ssceam2.clx

Upgrading to new GoldMine not an option at moment, Net update tool gives me error message, cannot complete download, error connection failure 2.

Again, thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

Your gm.ini needs  to list sysdir=, golddir=, and commondir=.  These need to be mapped drives, not unc.

If it had been working well for years, what changes took place at the time it stopped working?

My question: given that GoldMine 6 in installed on only 1 PC, what are the steps for a non-tekkie to correctly map sysdir+, golddir= and commanddir= to the right directories.  I am not running GM 6 on a network.  Running on a Windows XP Home, SP3.  What triggered this problem is GoldMine got corrupted.  Running maintenance tool didn't resolve corruption.  I did fresh install.  Built in GoldMine BU tool failed to restore my database, so I did a copy/paste of previously saved files/folders.  Thank you for your help on this.

Current settings are:

You are running the very first version of GM6, which was extremely buggy, especially with the brand new speller.  You can (and should) update immediately to the last version of GM6 - can't remember the version number but it is posted in a sticky somewhere in this forum.  There should not be any cost involved in doing this.

I remember having an Adobe shortcut in Word corrupt our GM6.  (Weird, but true.)  Even though you are a single user, having the drives mapped is the way to go.  Do you know how to accomplish that?

Hi Lydia1. Thx for suggestion to update to latest GM6, but haven't found way to update to newer GM6, can't find link.  Net-Update tool within GM6 gives "could not complete download."

No, I don't know how to map drives in single user/single PC install, to get Speller working again.  Thx for your help.  Speller still not working. But ran fine for years.  No apparent change at my end.  Thx. srhfish

As you are working with a discontinued product your only recourse is to get the download from FrontRange or from your GoldMine Partner directly.

the version you want (latest 6.0) is "6.00.40703".   You should be able to get this from Frontrange (give them a call) or from a Partner/support consultant.

Thank you all.  One last Q: tried changing GM so G Mail is primary e-mail account on my single user/single PC installation.  Tried this approach, didn't work, any comments?  Thx in advance, srhfish.

http://solutus.wordpress.com/2008/08/12/setting-up-yahoo-att-or-gmail-in-goldmine/

1. Visit stunnel.org and choose Downloads.  Select “Go to the download directory itself”.  This will bring you to a directory - click on “win32″.  Scroll down and find the most recent installer file which should be named similar to “stunnel-4.21-installer.exe”.  Click on this file to download and save it to your computer.  Run this executable to install the file.

2. Click Start | All Programs | Stunnel | Edit stunnel.conf

3. Modify as follows:

   a. Find the line that reads

   ;client = yes

   and remove the ;

   b. modify the [pop3s] section as follows:

   accept = 995

   connect = “YOUR ISP SERVER NAME*”:995

   (remove my quotes and plug in your ISP’s own pop server name, like pop.att.yahoo.com or ipostoffice.att.net

   (A user of SBCGlobal told me that he needed to use 110 for the accept line but 995 in the connect line to retrieve email.)

       c. modify the [ssmtp] section as follows:

       accept = 465

       connect = “YOUR ISP SERVER NAME*”:465

       (remove my quotes and plug in your ISP’s own pop server name, like pop.att.yahoo.com or ipostoffice.att.net

   The ports are standard, so they’re probably the ones your provider uses as well.

   4. Now launch GoldMine and go to Edit\Preferences\Internet (Versions 6 or 7) or Tools\Options\Email (Version 8/Premium) and use “127.0.0.1″ in place of your POP/STMP server definitions on the accounts that require SSL. You can also use the server name, for example, mine is Solutus1.

   5. Go to the Advanced Options window and set the ports to match the definitions you’ve just made in stunnel.conf. Also, you will probably have to activate the “This server requires authentication” option in the SMTP half of this window. Login/Plain worked fine for me.

   6. Click Start>>All Programs>>Stunnel>>Service>>Install.

   7. Click Start>>All Programs>>Stunnel>>Service>>Start.

(end)
